About the Work
Nesea is a Nereid associated with the island shores of Greek mythology. Her world is one of secluded coves, shifting water, and the meeting of sea and land.

Here, Nesea becomes a quiet presence within that landscape—an invitation to linger at the threshold between the known and the unknown.

Surface & Process
Rooted in Susan J. Roche’s underwater photography, the image is developed by hand with encaustic wax, oil paint, pastel, and pigment on a 1.5-inch cradled wood panel. Translucent layers of wax create depth, luminosity, and subtle shifts across the surface.
